Abstract

Diffusing photons are an exciting new tool for the study of turbid media that have recently been shown to provide sufficient information for the construction of low resolution images of spatially varying absorption and scattering factors in heterogeneous turbid media, such as tissue and complex fluids [1]. Interestingly, when these media are dynamic, the time-dependent density fluctuations of the medium are impressed upon the temporal correlations of the diffusing light. For a homogeneous fluctuating turbid media, such as a dense colloidal suspension, the temporal intensity autocorrelation function of a diffused speckle field can be analyzed to provide information about the density fluctuations within the sample [2].
