Conversion of wide-range (210-1700 nm) femtosecond laser radiation into high-energetic (20-40 KeV) photoelectron bursts

Abstract

To design an efficient source for generation of femtosecond (≤200 fs) bursts of high-energetic (20–40 KeV), high intensive (103-109) photoelectrons, a variety of photocathodes were investigated. Among them there are high-vacuum classical ones like multialkali (Na-K-Sb-Cs) and silver-caesium- oxide (Ag-Cs-O), NEA-photocathodes based on InGaAs/InP/Ag-heterostructures, as well as atmosphere resistant photoemitters like traditional metals (Au, Al, etc) and oxidized alloys like (AlMgCu)Ox. A chosen photocathode was placed inside demountable vacuum chamber in which a specially developed electrostatic electron lens (so- called electron gun) was also installed.
