Abstract

In recent years optical diagnostics have found widespread applications in aerodynamics, combustion and general flow-field diagnostic, since they are intrinsically non-intrusive and thus do not suffer the problems associated with physical probes used in the more traditional measurement techniques. Laser-based methods, with their capabilities of precise spatially and temporally resolved measurements of fundamental thermodynamic variables and velocities, have become increasingly important for flow-field diagnostics.
