Specular versus diffuse reflection of atoms from an evanescent wave mirror

Open Access Open Access

Abstract

In atomic mirrors it is important to preserve the coherence of the reflection. Diffuse reflection is equivalent to a loss of the transverse coherence of a deBroglie wave. So one would like to verify that an atomic mirror does indeed specularly reflect the atoms.
