Abstract
Recently, we developed a general technique for measuring arbitrary ultrashort laser pulses. This technique, Frequency-Resolved Optical Grating (FROG), [1,2] involves measuring the spectrogram of the pulse, that is, the spectrum of an autocorrelation signal. A phase-retrieval algorithm then extracts from the measured spectrogram the pulse intensity and phase vs. time (or frequency). FROG has been used to measure pulses over a broad spectral range, from the mid-IR to the UV; over a broad range of pulse lengths; and over a broad range of repetition rates, from 108-Flz pulse trains to single shot.
