Abstract

We built a Mach-Zehnder type interferometer for atomic deBroglie waves where diffraction at standing light waves which act as phase gratings for the (metastable) argon beam and serve as beam splitter (Fig. 1) [1]. This interferometer can be viewed as the exact mirror image of a grating interferometer for light, with switched roles for atoms and light.
