Abstract

In recent years, there have been many attempts to produce tunable light sources with a short pulse width, which would be very valuable in material science and quantum electronics. By utilizing the travelling-wave optical parametric generation process, broadband tunable short optical pulses can be obtained with a pumping light source as a fixed wavelength. An attractive feature of the travelling-wave parametric generation is its pulse-narrowing effect in the propagation process. This paper reports experimental and theoretical results on the pulse narrowing effect. The experimental results agree well with the theoretical calculation, which, for the first time, was carried out taking various effects into account.
