Abstract
The phenomenon of current self-distribution (CSD) can play an important role in diode lasers, specifically when nonuniformity of the stimulated recombination produces spatial variations of optical properties of the active material, thus causing laser mode instability. Current crowding occurring in response to a local depression of the carrier lifetime can compensate, at least partially, an enhanced carrier consumption.
