Abstract

Atom traps based on the repulsive optical di-pole force in blue-detuned laser fields1-3 offer the great advantage of storage in a “dark” spatial region. This minimizes unwanted effects caused by the trapping light, like heating by photon scattering, optically induced exoergic collisions, and level shifts.
