An experimental feedback loop for implementing coherent control based on the genetic algorithm

Abstract

Many papers have recently reported optical coherent control of dynamical phenomena by intuitively choosing the optimal field for achieving control based on knowledge of the system.’3־ However, intuitive control may fail either when the inherent dynamics are not well understood or in the presence of experimental uncertainties. One way to overcome this difficulty is to perform the control experimentally, in real time. For example, real-time feedback has been used to compress fs pulses by phase correction.4 Here, we present an experimental feedback loop to optimize the pulse characteristics in a pump-probe experiment in the presence of experimental noise.
