Abstract
The subject of noiseless amplification of optical images belongs to the latest developments in the area of quantum optics. It aims to parallel into spatial domain the possibility of noiseless amplification of temporal optical signals. Previous investigations on the noiseless image amplifier showed that such a device can be realized by a planar-cavity optical parametric oscillator below threshold [1], or by a travelling wave broadband parametric amplifier [2]. Both schemes are limited by the fact that the amplification takes place in a non uniform way over the spatial extent of the image, and the noiseless character of the amplification depends on the position in the transverse plane.
