Coherent manipulation and "laser cooling” of the condensate phase in atomic Josephson junctions

Abstract

We study theoretically the coherent manipulation and dissipative dynamics of the relative phase of atomic Bose Einstein condensates coupled by a Josephson interaction. We consider the case of two and three coupled condensates, and a coupling in the form of an internal Josephson effect (coupling of internal atomic states via a laser induced Raman transition) and an external Josephson effect via tunneling.
