Abstract

The optical properties and applications of site-controlled quantum wires (QWRs), quantum dots (QDs) and their ordered arrays are reviewed. Examples include QWRs embedded in low-dimensional microcavities, QWR lasers, QD single photon emitters and QD photonic crystals.
