Interference effects in the cavity-assisted laser cooling of single atoms and atomic ensembles

Abstract

Laser-driven atoms moving in a cavity are subject to various interference effects which can lead, e.g., to counterintuitive linear velocity-dependence of the light scattering properties, or a collective cooling and self-organization of an atomic ensemble.
