Abstract
Despite the successes mean field theories continue to enjoy in characterizing the phase coherent dynamics of BoseEinstein condensates and degenerate Fermi gases, higher order quantum effects such as number correlations and quantum wavepacket diffusion are not described by these models. First principles calculations - both numerical and analytical - are essential in studying intrinsic quantum effects which ultimately limit precision measurements.
