Abstract
As predicted by Newton, a beam of light, with incident angle for total internal reflection will penetrate slightly into the less dense medium. The reflected beam will thus be shifted accordingly. This longitudinal shift, was first measured by Goos and Hanchen[l]. Although the original experiment was devised long ago, there is currently great experimental and theoretical interest in measuring the Goos-Hanchen shift[2] (GH). These experiments measure the GH for TE polarized light relative to TM polarization.
