Abstract

A plasmonic switch is demonstrated with rotaxane-derivatized Au nanodisks. The molecule-nanodisk complexes exhibit redox-controlled reversible plasmon-based switching, suggesting that nanoscale movement with surface-bound molecular machines can be used as the active components of plasmonic devices.
