Fused Microfiber Resonators

Abstract

We demonstrate a ~2.6 mm-diameter optical ring resonator fabricated from a 7.2 µm-thick silica fiber with a CO2 laser- fused coupling region for mechanical robustness. We experimentally obtain a Q-factor of ≥25,000 at 1.55 µm.
