In Vivo Autofluorescence Imaging of the Human Retina: New Developments for a Well-established Imaging Modality

Open Access Open Access

Abstract

Besides OCT, angiography and color imaging also the fundus autofluorescence modality (FAF), which allows for imaging endogenous fluorophores within the retina, has emerged as a powerful diagnostic tool especially for macular atrophies. Recently, this modality has been extended by two additional techniques, which are now under clinical evaluation: quantitative autofluorescence (qAF) and fluorescence lifetime imaging ophthalmoscopy (FLIO).
