Abstract
Recent years have brought dramatic advances in the development of blue diode lasers, leading to the development of higher density optical data storage systems. Three approaches have been heavily pursued, including compact frequency doubled diode lasers, ZnSe-based diode lasers, and most recently GaN-based diode lasers. The relative merits and current status will be discussed in detail as applied to optical data storage.
