Abstract

This paper introduces a technique for precisely measuring the optical vertical birefringence. We first locate the in-plane optical principal axes of the film and then rotate the film around the in-plane axes. Data obtained on a polyolefin film show that VBR can be measured to a precision of 0.2* 10-3.
