Ultrafast Coherent Switching of Phase-Change in Rewritable Optical Media

Abstract

We demonstrate in Ge2Sb2Te5 superlattice that the phase change from amorphous into crystalline states can be manipulated within 1 picosecond by coherent excitation of the local lattice vibration using a pair of femtosecond laser pulses.
