Abstract

We report on sub-cycle electron emission and acceleration unique to localized strong mid-infrared and Terahertz near-fields. The sub-cycle regime of electron-light interaction allows for field-driven near-field streaking, efficient electron acceleration, and permits access to local carrier dynamics. Moreover, phase-sensitive electron dynamics in the near-field enable novel schemes to tailor electron pulses for novel ultrafast imaging and diffraction instruments.
