Abstract

Surface Plasmons are a special form of electromagnetic waves that propagate at metal-dielectric interface, and have promised various practical applications. Surface plasmon based devices are generally seen as next-generation integrated photonic devices. Terahertz waves have also promised many cutting-edge applications, owning to its unique spectral properties. However, functional terahertz devices are still lacking. In this talk, we present our recent studies on terahertz surface plasmons excited on metasurface platforms, including surface plasmon wavefront control and asymmetric excitation, which show potential in realizing compact and miniaturized terahertz on-chip devices. The designs are validated by near-field scanning terahertz microscopy characterizations.
