Study on Local Oxygen Absorption/Desorption Dynamics onto 2D Materials Probed by Potential-Sensitive THz Radiation

Abstract

In the present work, a new approach to visualize a local kinetics of oxygen absorption/desorption onto atomic-scale 2D materials is introduced and applied for grapheme and a-few-layer tungsten disulfur. A principle that waveforms of terahertz radiation from 2D material-coated InP are strong dependent on the surface potential of InP, being affected sensitively with the absorbates is employed, and the waveforms are analyzed, which enables us to estimate the adsorption energy of the molecules on the 2D materials. Since the THz waves are emitted only from the area excited with femtosecond laser pulses, scanning the laser beam on the sample provides the image of local adsorption dynamics with a resolution of the beam diameter. The new approach will bring a new potential tool for the study of molecular adsorption dynamics onto 2D materials.
