Abstract

An all-fiber acousto-optic modulator (AOM) based on a simple combination of short-length cladding-etched fiber and piezoelectric transducer is proposed and its use for active mode-locking of a fiber laser is experimentally demonstrated with an output pulsewidth of 2.66 ps.
