CO2 Laser Sidewall Polishing of Millimeter-scale Fused Silica Light Pipes

Abstract

The sidewalls of fused silica light pipes with millimeter-scale cross-sections, having two rough surfaces from etching, were polished using a CO2 laser. Surface profilometry and thermal management were used to achieve optical quality results.
