Abstract
A proposed "laser enhanced flame ionization detector" is described which retains the desirable properties of conventional flame ionization detectors (FID's), e.g., wide linear dynamic range, a predictable response for hydrocarbon detection, low noise level, and small internal volume, while providing significantly reduced detection limits. This superior detection capability results from improved response characteristics and a thousand-fold increase in ionization rate.
