Abstract

Optical breakdown air plasmas are generated by focused Nd:YAG ir laser radiation of 1012 to 1014 W/cm2 intensity, and rich emission spectra result. Time-resolved spectroscopy techniques are applied to characterize the decaying laser-induced plasma. Recombination spectra that are dominated by nitric oxide are measured and analyzed with the objective of obtaining temperature and species density information.
