Abstract
The technical feasibility of a 10-km, 100 Gbps, single-optical channel transmission system based on direct-detection orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing that does not require amplification or FEC is numerically demonstrated for a BER lower than 10−12. The cost-effective transceiver combined with a standard single-mode fiber represents an appealing alternative to implement next generation 100 Gbps or four-channel WDM 400 Gbps Ethernet technology.
