Abstract

Observed timings of 244 sunrises and 125 sunsets over the span of three years were used to determine the atmospheric refraction of the Sun's upper limb at the moment of sunrise and sunset on a zero horizon. Sunrise and sunset was defined as the moment the upper limb of the Sun appeared above the local horizon. All observations were done from two sites in Edmonton, Alberta separated by a distance of 2.2 kilometers.
