Spectral characterization of near-field thermal radiation using a nano-scale local thermal light source

Abstract

We characterize the enhancement of thermal near-fields associated with surface/bulk resonances. These results are distinct from classically understood far-field thermal emission and verify predictions of near-field enhancement of the electromagnetic local density of states.
