Time-resolved x-ray diffraction of high-wavevector acoustic phonons

Abstract

Time-resolved x-ray diffraction experiments on a optically excited gold films on a germanium substrate are presented. The resulting transient strain pulse is revealed to have wavevectors upto the inverse of the film thickness.
