Temporal Reshaping of Single Photon Wave Packets using Cholesteric Liquid Crystals

Abstract

We demonstrate controllable reshaping of the single-photon wave packet by selectively delaying a portion of it with a cholesteric liquid crystal structure. Such shaped photons can be used to test fundamental concepts of quantum-mechanical tunneling.
