On the Microscopic Origins of Optical Magnetism — Insight from Mie Theory

Abstract

We identify the microscopic origins for optical magnetism in dielectric metamate-rials. Features in the homogenized permeability are found to correspond to the magnetic dipole resonance of individual particles, which will have far-reaching impacts.
