Majorana-like zero modes in a two-dimensional photonic topological insulator

Abstract

Constructing highly confined defect modes in photonic crystal slabs and fibers is a major challenge in photonics. We use a photonic topological insulator to realize mid-gap (maximally confined) disorder-insensitive defect modes.
