Metamaterial Bottom Cladding for Bending Loss Reduction of Quasi-TM Modes in Silicon Nitride Strip Waveguides

Abstract

A metamaterial bottom cladding (MBC) for the Si3N4 strip waveguide is investigated. The MBC is composed of Si3N4 and SiO2, and compared to isotropic cladding shows dramatic bending losses reduction for the fundamental quasi-TM mode.
