Gigabit Laser Ethernet Transceiver for Free-Space Optical Communication Systems

Abstract

This paper presents a novel FPGA-based Gigabit Laser Ethernet Transceiver featuring a custom designed transmission protocol capable of overcoming the inherent impairments of FSO communications. The prototype is characterized and validated with a ground to ground test.
