Abstract
Pointing errors caused by atmospheric effects are particularly deleterious to free space optical communication. We have established a mathematical model between atmospheric turbulence and pointing errors, and the model can provide quantitative analysis of atmosphere turbulence on pointing angle errors of PAT system, which can be applied in Horizontal Ground link and Satellite/Ground downlink. The kinetic compensation effect of atmospheric effects could also be determined by parameters in the pre-designed control systems. The method is very useful to predict atmospheric effects on PAT systems during the design of optical communication terminal.
