Abstract

This paper proposed a novel metal coated surface relief grating for CO2 laser. Artificial Bee Colony (ABC) algorithm combined with Rigorous Coupled Wave Analysis (RCWA) is resorted to optimize the metal coated surface relief grating. A gold coated grating with a reflectivity greater than 99% for TE wave and an extinction ratio higher than 30dB ranging from 9.1 to 10.95um is obtained. Such high performance grating is anticipated to be used in CO2 laser devices such as polarizer, polarizer beam splitter, isolator, or resonator mirror for special polarized beam generation.
