Abstract

We propose a kind of planar plasmonic metamaterials on ultrathin metal films with nearly zero thickness, which can support surface plasmon polaritons (SPPs) at the microwave and terahertz frequencies. Such planar plasmonic metamaterials sustain highly localized SPPs along two orthogonal directions with excellent performance, such as broadband, good modal shape, long propagation distance, and low bending loss, and hence they can be used to produce compact-size planar passive devices in the microwave and terahertz frequencies.
