Abstract

A deformable mirror with actuators of thermoelectric coolers and aluminum base is introduced in this paper. The deformable mirror (DM) is the main device in adaptive optics system and it corrects the aberration by adjusting the mirror surface. Having been developed quickly in recent years, the thermal deformation DM is a new kind of DM and the mechanism of the thermal deformation is different from the piezoceramic DM or thermal driven DM. The thermos-field bimetal DM uses the different thermal field in different mirror field to bend the faceplate. Through such a mechanism, we can have a smooth and effective correction process. Recently thermal actuators are used in the first generation gravitational wave interferometer. Slow thermally induced beam-wavefront distortions can be compensated using deformable mirrors driven by thermal actuators in this interferometer.
