Abstract

We show that a photonic crystal film can emit coherent thermal radiation. We demonstrate the key role of leaky waves existing at the interface air-photonic crystal. The frequency and direction of emission depend on the lattice parameters. This paves the way towards the design of coherent infrared antennas.
