Synthesis and Coherent Detection of Ultrabroadband Mid-Infrared Transients: From Atomic Field Amplitudes to the Quantum Regime

Abstract

Phase-stable functional waveforms covering the entire mid-infrared are synthesized with amplitudes up to 1 V/Å. Few-femtosecond gate pulses allow direct readout of the electric field with sensitivity approaching the single-photon regime.
