Average power and pulse energy scalability of thin-rod and thin-tapered-rod Yb:YAG amplifiers

Abstract

80W average power with substantial beam quality degradation and 8mJ pulse energy on the optical breakdown limit is achieved from the thin-rod Yb:YAG amplifier. The tapered-rod geometry is proposed to scale both parameters.
