Abstract
Amplified spontaneous XUV emission from Xenon clusters irradiated by free-electron laser pulses was experimentally observed. Theoretical modeling describes experi-mental trends and shows that collision processes in expanding clusters yield transient pop-ulation inversion and cause decoherence.
