Abstract
The human retina with its vasculature and supporting tissues shows variations in anatomy and physiology across its surface. These variations determine the local susceptibility of the retina to different disease processes. In fact, the distribution of retinal defects can be a characteristic of the disease at hand and is thus important for diagnosis. In addition, the growing and shrinking of the affected areas is often the main indicator in monitoring the disease process and evaluating treatment.
