Abstract

Changes in retinal health with aging or disease may affect an observer’s ability to detect flickering light.1,2,3 The de Lange function4 describes an observer’s contrast sensitivity to various rates of sinusoidal flicker and, with the addition of a nonlinearity, can account for all traditional flicker fusion data.5 We present data showing the effects of healthy aging on de Lange functions.
