Abstract

Retinitis pigmentosa (RP) is a pigmentary retinal degenerative disease. Although the disease process has been studied extensively, little is known about the effects of the disease on visual perception. What we do know about the perceptual effects derives from patients’ subjective comments and the results of a limited number of psychophysical studies. The experimental results suggest that some RP patients experience spatial distortions (Temme, 1985; Turano, 1990).
