Abstract

It is widely realised that disturbance in the function of the eye is often inadequately assessed with visual acuity only. Contrast sensitivity and glare sensitivity have been proposed for more complete assessment. But in the absence of a golden standard for visual function it has been impossible to judge the adequacy of these, or any, visual function tests. For practical application it is unclear how results can be extrapolated to actual conditions of the visual environment, other than precisely the test condition.
